I have just bought a house and the flower bed which is about 15′ x 4′ is over grown with weeds and dead flowers. How should I go about clearing it? Should I spray it with weed killer and then pull up all the weeds and flowers? Or should I just pull them up, I don’t want the weeds to come back. We have plans to plant a small tree and flowers but I want to make sure I treat the soil before I plant again. Any tips? Thanks!

I have a large yard, that I have been working for 2 yrs. now. It’s ready for some flowers. 5 flower beds in the back yard. 3 in the front yard. 1 of the 3 in the front will be full sun all day. I love color. And i really want to cover the beds with flowers, so I don’t have so many weeds to work. Also, on one side, I have mostly shade, with sun coming in threw the trees. Any wisdom out there for me?
southern, east coast. I think zone 6 to 8.

The flower bed is just filled up with dirt, weeds, and pebbles. First I need to clean it out I guess but do I use the dirt that’s already in there or do put soil down? If you want to know, I live in Southern Arizona where it’s always dry and hot and I want to plant perennial flowers. I’m new to gardening and want to know how prepare the flower bed, what type of soil I need (if necessary) and any tips on types of flowers to plant. Thanks alot!

A few days after I planted some flowers my landlady had gardeners reseed the lawn. Some seed scattered over on my gardening area. How can I get rid of this grass and weeds (other than individually picking them out) without damaging the flowers? Also, are there any products that targets weeds (dandelions and the sort) and not grass?
