Feeding the Hungry

This is an issue that has been written about thousands of years. For starters, the Bible has many references to feed the poor and less fortunate as a fundamental way to show our humanity. The drive to my office in Hollywood on a recent morning brought a new perspective on the issue for me. No soil think of a California freeway as a temple of enlightenment and insight, but I will accept it when it arrives. While leaving the Santa Monica Freeway was received by too familiar sight of a young body can stand on the ramp edge is holding cardboard sign. Regardless of the exact formulation of the signal has issued in the stereotype, asking for a cash contribution to help "get something to eat." With a smile and a "not this time" followed me driving. But just around the corner and five meters down the street was another young woman standing in the middle next to a bucket of flowers and carried a bouquet of flowers in his hand that was for sale. I noticed that both people were in effect asking to be fed but with two different approaches.

Then, I wondered why a man was begging for money while the other was business and offer something of tangible value in exchange for a few dollars. In this set of circumstances my actions are guided by the old adage "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for life. "Although many people think it comes from the Bible, is actually a Chinese proverb. In my opinion, giving a person money to buy a meal is simply doing a favor while teaching them to use their skills making money is really the teaching of one of the most valuable lessons of life. Which leaves you with a better feeling long after the time happened? Personally I am more fond of people who want to learn how to fish.

I believe that self-reliance can be taught and learned. Our corporation nonprofit to Do The Institute for Business Promotion ( www.MakingItInstitute.org ) recently produced a live event that brought together a group of superstars out small companies with newer business owners who are hungry to learn to grow their businesses. Am a firm believer that the best way to learn is to learn from the best and that knowledge is synonymous with freedom. Our criteria for owning a business was the superstar you had to have started with very little money and built the business to an annual gross of $ 10 million or more. It was a wonderful surprise when I invited a diverse group from employers to give their time and share knowledge with ambitious business owners to grow. They responded with an enthusiastic yes! Their businesses range from impressive sales of about $ 20 million to $ 750 million. There were stories rich quick, no shortcuts to success, and no quick fixes to problems. Are fed audience with the sincere real life experiences of business that their successes were built on. What the employers, said the superstar was like water to a plant parched desert, and attendees are encouraged, took a lot of notes and applauded the speakers.

That entrepreneurial spirit and thought can change the life and I have seen it happen. Some years ago I sat with a grandmother in Los Angeles who lived in the Jordan Downs housing project, an area very difficult. She had been the acceptance of social assistance for years, but had decided that type of charity did not match the image I had of herself. She was hungry of something better. There was much excitement when she spoke of how she had taken a bus to the center of the District of wholesale importer and found a athletic socks to sell its wholesale prices. Back at the housing project, which went door to door selling packages of socks! That was really the start of a major life change, self-sufficiency and freedom of drug money from social assistance. Acclaimed government programs such as the "War on Poverty did not change his life, but since he did his own small company.

One of the reasons why I am totally dedicated to the promotion of entrepreneurship business in America today is that I see a great hunger in people around the country who want to learn how to transform their lives successfully. That longing that goes far observed beyond counting up dollars. People want to feel good by providing principled leadership for your business and family life. They want to feel hopeful and the type of security coming from real self-sufficiency and freedom of choice. Part of the general anger we have with most politicians these days and some mega business CEO is the absence of principles and values-driven leadership. Our group of small business owners superstars came to a special place to embrace these principles, together with their persistent pursuit of a personal vision.

Thinking about these two men who were in the Crenshaw Boulevard exit of the Santa Monica Freeway, I wonder by the images that each car takes about himself. It is clear that both were hungry for something because they usually do not work the street corners unless you are really motivated. Does the person holding the cardboard sign to see himself as a beggar or a helpless as a victim of social influences? When someone told him not could succeed, he did begin to believe? Why lose the sense of hope? Was the man waving a bouquet of flowers holding an inside view of building a much larger business learning to a hurry no matter how humble the company? Who convinced him that the sale of flowers on the street was an opportunity and a potential for a better life? Since I know that our inner image of ourselves determines our external actions, my goal is to help people see their personal potential through a our "Making It!" television programming and Doing the work of the Institute.

Food for the soul and the human spirit is perhaps the most difficult of finding food, eating and digesting in its entirety. I believe that entrepreneurial thinking is the plaque on which the food is well served. Everyone has dreams and aspirations that can be converted into goals pursued with passion. When we as a nation learn how to care for and feed the hungry, we become truly unstoppable.
